Stuart initially trained as a psychoanalyst and clinical hypnotherapist and is trained and registered as a psychotherapist, counsellor, holistic psychologist, hypnotherapist, life coach and complementary therapist who integrates and combines eastern and western psychological therapies. He began his training in 1992, and from 1993-1995 completed a psychoanalysis, counselling and hypnotherapy diploma requiring over 200 supervised and assessed cases (over 1,000 client hours) and over 400 hours of face to face training, as well as receiving psychoanalysis himself in preparation for practice. This lead to an NVQ level 4 Training and Development in the context of Complementary Health Education, requiring further assessment of real life practice. This training was with ASM, and is a CNHC accreditation route (via SSm recognition). . Prior to his therapy training Stuart completed a BSc (Hons) IIT specialising in Human Resources and modelling. Stuart then completed additional accreditation over 2 years with the National Association of Counsellors Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists (a CNHC route) in combined humanistic, analytic and hypnosis based therapy.
Since then Stuart has completed a MSc in Psychology, a BA (Open) in Psychology topics, externally accredited Level 4 awards in Hypnotherapy, Integrated Therapeutic Counselling, Psychotherapy, Competence in Social Work and Mental health in Social Work. He has completed level 3 awards in Grief counselling, Lifestyle coaching, NLP and Chi Gung. He has also completed university certificates with Lampeter and Edinburgh Universities.
In addition to his academic and vocational awards, he has completed non academic theological training via an interfaith seminary in Mindfulness and related psychology models. This theological commitment is relevant to practice since mindfulness is often combined with CBT, along with other eastern psychology methods, all of which have their roots in Buddhism, Taoism or Zen. Additional non traditional qualifications include CPD training from the TODO Japanese psychology college, Martial Arts (5th Dan), and CPD units from the British Medical Journal. He is also a Reiki master and non traditional Reiki Grandmaster.
