Who Provides Psychoanalysis?

Stuart began his career as a therapist by training in clinical hypnotherapy and psychoanalysis with the then Association of Stress Management, recognised by the Society of Stress Managers, a hypnotherapy voluntary regulator accreditation route. His training consisted of 200 clients (over 1,000 client hours) and 3 years of study and tuition leading to both a professional diploma, and also integral NVQ assessment (NVQ Level 4 T&D in context of therapy education). SSM training not only incorporates NVQ assessment of the trainee actually "doing" the job, it also incorporates health education and coaching alongside therapy. Stuart had personal psychoanalysis as part of his training. Stuart has 6 monthly "stress checks" and monthly clinical supervision to ensure fitness to practice.

Stuart also has a BA, a BSc and a MSc, the latter being in psychology. He has also completed multiple externally accredited diplomas including in Integrative counselling, grief counselling and psychotherapy. He has used these to broaden his knowledge of the field and allow the integration of additional tools and skill sets into his psychoanalytic work.

Stuart initially trained in a style of analysis influenced by Freud, Jung and Laing, but has since developed into a blend of Jung, Lacan and Klein with additional influences including Nietzsche, Hume,  Buddhist psychology including mindfulness, and Taoism.

Stuart incorporates eastern and western psychology as well as his ongoing university study of philosophy into his style of analysis and psychotherapy. He also uses hypnotherapy seamlessly where appropriate, using elements of self hypnosis, mindfulness and suggestion, including when processing analytic outcomes.

Stuart is a Fellow of the Society of Stress Managers, a Senior Accredited member of the National Council of Psychotherapists and a full member of the National Association of Counsellors Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists. He is also a full member of the Institute of Professional Psychologists.
